Vegan-ism

or Plant based eating

Vegans are purported to consume only foods derived from plants. This means no animal foods of any kind. Period. This sounds great! Great for you. Great for the Animals. Great for the Planet!... However, it is not that ‘Cut and Dried’. Food choices for Vegan(ers) is the biggest challenge and the reasons are numerous. Many Vegans believe that as long as they are not eating animal foods that they are considered Vegan. I guess that, technically, this is true... however, there needs to be consideration for proper nutrition and all of the other guidelines that go along with choosing Fresh, Local, In Season and Organic.

We are not experts. We only know what works for us and how we feel, mentally, physically, and spiritually. How one feels after finishing a meal is an excellent barometer of whether you’re doing it right or not. Are you still hungry after eating (until you are seventy-five percent full)? Are you craving something sweet? Salty? and so on. Listen to your inner voice. Listen to your heart. Choose wisely. Find a book which resonates with your way of life. One of our favorite authors is John Robbins. Any one of his books would be an excellent source for adopting a ‘Vegan’ diet. No matter what, try not to make your diet an ‘Ism’. Be open. Be free.

Experiment and have fun.

Enjoy!
